Regulatory Information

Caesar is a brand owned and operated by Geoffrey Caesar. Caesar is not itself a law firm and is not authorised or regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. This page sets out the regulated persons and firms through whom legal services offered under the Caesar brand are delivered, together with the applicable insurance, complaints and redress arrangements. The arrangements described here may change from time to time; the identity of the provider, the regulatory basis and the applicable terms for any particular matter will be confirmed in writing before work is undertaken.

How Caesar delivers

Legal work under the Caesar brand is delivered through three channels.

Directly by Geoffrey Caesar as an SRA-regulated freelance solicitor. Geoffrey is a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales, admitted in 2007, and is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA number 666497). In his capacity as a freelance solicitor, Geoffrey provides non-reserved legal services only and does not hold client money. This route is typically used for advisory work, contract drafting and negotiation, and similar transactional matters that do not require reserved legal activities or a client account.

Through Lawhive Legal Ltd. Where a matter involves a reserved legal activity, the use of a client account, or where the client prefers to contract with an authorised firm, Geoffrey acts as a consultant solicitor through Lawhive Legal Ltd (SRA ID 8003766), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14651095). In those cases Lawhive Legal Ltd is the contracting entity and its terms, insurance and complaints procedure apply to the engagement. Geoffrey is remunerated by Lawhive Legal Ltd for work delivered through that firm.

Through specialist referral partners. Caesar works with a network of specialist lawyers, firms and subject-matter experts across areas where focused expertise adds value — including tax, intellectual property, employment, disputes, regulatory matters and international work. Where a matter is best handled by one of these partners, Caesar will introduce the client and, in most cases, stay involved to provide continuity across the relationship. Caesar may receive a commission or referral fee from the partner; the arrangement will be disclosed to the client in writing before any introduction is made. The client is always free to choose their own provider.

Professional indemnity insurance

For work delivered by Geoffrey Caesar as a freelance solicitor, professional indemnity insurance of £1 million is carried personally, underwritten at Lloyd's. This insurance is not written on the SRA's minimum terms and conditions, which apply only to insurance arranged by SRA-authorised firms. Clients engaging Geoffrey directly in his freelance capacity should bear this in mind; the practical consequences will be explained in the engagement letter.

For work delivered through Lawhive Legal Ltd, professional indemnity insurance is arranged by that firm on the SRA's minimum terms and conditions applicable to authorised bodies.

For work delivered by specialist referral partners, the partner firm's own insurance arrangements apply to the engagement.

Complaints

Caesar aims to provide a high standard of service on every matter. If something goes wrong, clients are encouraged to raise it first with Geoffrey directly, so that it can be addressed quickly and informally where possible.

For matters handled by Geoffrey Caesar as a freelance solicitor. A formal written complaint can be made to Geoffrey at [email address]. A full written response will be provided within eight weeks. If the complaint is not resolved to the client's satisfaction, eligible clients have the right to refer the matter to the Legal Ombudsman, normally within six months of the final response. The Legal Ombudsman can be contacted at www.legalombudsman.org.uk, on 0300 555 0333, or at PO Box 6167, Slough, SL1 0EH. Complaints about professional conduct can be made to the Solicitors Regulation Authority at www.sra.org.uk.

For matters handled through Lawhive Legal Ltd. Lawhive Legal Ltd operates its own complaints procedure. Complaints should be directed to Lawhive Legal Ltd in the first instance, with the same Legal Ombudsman and SRA routes available thereafter.

For matters handled through specialist referral partners. The referral partner's own complaints procedure applies. The applicable process will be confirmed at the point of introduction.

Data protection

Caesar's privacy notice is available here. For matters contracted through Lawhive Legal Ltd or a specialist referral partner, that provider's own data protection arrangements apply to the engagement.
